  1. Amanda, What a great find!!!

this is awesome, i could sit here and argue with him about the herbal medicine, gmo's, vaccines and all his other premises but he get's it right in the end.

Science is a tool, one that is used by culture and societies. It can be led or it can lead, but to accept science blindly, without context, or Skepticism is as ridiculous as blind faith in religion or placebo.

I was reading the book Mirage of Health by Rene Dubois today on the bus and came across this passage, it seems to fit well.

"scientific medicine will certainly define the factors of in the physical environment and the types of behavior which constitute threats to health in modern society. But to fulfill it's potentialities it may once more need the help of bold amateurs willing to use empirical methods based on philosophical, humanitarian, and aesthetic beliefs. Medical statesmanship cannot thrive only on scientific knowledge, because exact science cannot encompass all the human factors involved in health and in disease. Knowledge and power may arise from dreams as well as from facts and logic."

  2. I LOVE Ted. Smart people passionately arguing about stuff that matters. I like smart people way more than dumb people....

Specter is a futurist, but he gets the bog picture right. And we don't get to 'opt out' of science and technology.
